]]> The film was written for and will star Crystal Chappell and Jessica Leccia, by author Marisa Calin, best known for her novel Between You & Me, (Bloomsbury, 2012). Ms Calin was inspired to write the film after watching the final few months of Guiding Light and the fan nicknamed “Otalia” storyline.
“The final nine months of Guiding Light were a master-class in nuance and vulnerability. The storyline was the single most genuine exploration of two people falling in love over time that I have ever seen, in any medium,” Ms Calin said.
States Ms Chappell, “Open Book is thrilled to be partnering with Ms Calin’s Perfect Features to produce this film.”
The untitled feature chronicles the relationship between actress, Lainey Allen (Crystal Chappell), and her publicist, Eva Morales (Jessica Leccia), as they struggle to deal with the diagnosis of Lainey’s Early Onset Alzheimer’s. The film delves into Lainey and Eva’s changing relationship, the prospect of an indomitable woman’s future of dependence and her single support system – the woman who was once in awe of her, becomes everything to her, and will now look after her.
Crystal and Jessica garnered great acclaim for their portrayal of Olivia and Natalia in the “Otalia” storyline on CBS-TV’s Guiding Light. The story became a worldwide hit about a same-sex relationship which had a profoundly positive impact on both the audience and media as well, culminating in Crystal’s two web series Venice and The Grove. Open Book Productions most recently produced Beacon Hill, a political drama in which Ms Chappell also starred.
Open Book Productions and Perfect Features are scheduled to start principle photography in October 2014.
